What Causes Learning Disabilities - Case Study 1

Amber is a popular eleventh grader. She is athletically talented excelling on her school’s soccer team. She was elected varsity cheerleader, publicity president and teaches aerobics after school. While her extra curricular life is a huge success, her grades are mostly C’s and D’s. She often fails to turn in homework and what she does turn in is messy and incomplete. The school views Amber’s problem as an over extended social life. Her success as an athlete overshadows problems she may be having with her fine motor coordination skills. Playing soccer and even teaching aerobics does not demand that she be able to manipulate a pen or any other small instrument. Amber comprehends what she is learning in school but she doesn’t know how to get down on the page what she knows when she is required to write it.
